“Fluxing between simple, soft moments and production-heavy soundscapes, Gentle Punches highlights the power and complexity of Jack in Water’s bold new sound.” – Atwood Magazine

“A songwriter with real depth, his work has a painterly touch, a way of utilising music and words to deliver something special.” – Clash

After releasing his debut EP Absence for Nettwerk Records last year, UK alternative singer-songwriter William Clapson a.k.a Jack in Water, recently returned with his new single “Gentle Punches,” taken from his forthcoming new EP. It’s a powerful and poignant song that explores the complexities of helping someone in emotional pain.

Earlier this week, Clapson shared a video for the single, directed by his close friend Joel Blake.

“I wanted the film to convey the frustration you can experience when you want to help someone but can’t and keep trying but nothing seems to change“, he explained. “I wanted to try and capture that feeling as time passes when your patience and empathy begin to dry up a little and you start to question if you are actually helping or if you are acting in a way to speed up the process of recovery for your own self-interest.”

Working Ben Christophers on “Gentle Punches,” the producer has giving the song’s production a unique power that supports and uplifts Clapson’s new bold sonic direction, whilst still retaining his emotional rawness. Christophers is best known for his work with Bat for Lashes.

Jack In Water’s new EP will be out this summer. Stay tuned for more news and live dates throughout 2019.
