The Ballroom Thieves Announces Headline Tour Dates Starting 4/25; Shares Second Single “Tender”

February 23, 2024 BY Emma Orland

Acclaimed indie folk band The Ballroom Thieves, Calin Peters  (vocals, cello, bass) and Martin Earley (vocals, guitar), is excited to announce their spring headline tour, starting on April 25 at The Sultan Room in Brooklyn and making stops in Nashville at The Basement, Boston at The Sinclair and more before wrapping up in Northampton at Iron Horse Music Hall on June 2. A full list of dates can be found below including current supporting dates with Sarah Jarosz.

The Ballroom Thieves are celebrating the announcement with their second single, “Tender ,” from their upcoming record, Sundust, out April 12. Consisting of the duo’s signature vocal harmonies atop a lithely finger-picked acoustic guitar and a haunting pedal steel that weaves itself effortlessly into the tune, “Tender” is an ode to the importance of creating space within a song. Martin shares, “ We were listening to the band Watchhouse at the Newport Folk Festival in 2022, and their sparse instrumentation and fluid melodies inspired me to start writing ’Tender’ right on the spot. We learn a lot from our peers, and in this case, the lesson was about the importance of creating space for your songs to breathe so you can hear what’s happening between the notes.”

As The Ballroom Thieves wrote and recorded their upcoming album, one central question emerged as the theme: “What if we could all just be a little more tender?” The duo started to ponder what they could do to be more self-aware of their mental health and of those around them in a world oversaturated by social media, pop-culture, and digital consumption. The result is Sundust, a 10-track collection of thoughts on the human experience. “This group of songs is a self-portrait of our intertwined lives, ” shares Peters.
