Danish sibling-rock-trio Velvet Volume have recently shared the exuberant new single “Honey,” containing all the restless glow of youth, which has made the band shine in their local scene and beyond.

“‘Honey’ is a cadeau to the insecure and vulnerable teenage girl” the band explained. “Expressed in an unrefined and very loud way. It is a song we wrote back in 2013… so you can really sense the unapologetic and explicit young vibe in it.

Velvet Volume will be re-releasing their debut studio album this summer with Nettwerk. Watch the new music video for previous single, the anthemic “I Think I Need You.

Comprising of three young siblings, (twins, Noa (guitar) and Naomi (bass), alongside their drummer sister Nataja), the band have been creating a ripple across Denmark and beyond in the last few years with their sell-out energetic live gigs and a sound that recalls Veruca Salt, The Donnas and a dash of Sleater-Kinney in the vocal range. Velvet Volume’s debut album Look Look Look! was released back in 2017 to great critical praise in their native Denmark, featuring catchy, riff-tastic, no nonsense rock songs like ‘Fire’, ‘Leap into Heaven’, ‘Runnin’ Wild’ and ‘I Think I Need You’. Nettwerk were quickly won over by their raw talent and recently signed them up for an international deal.

In the last couple of years Velvet Volume have played international festivals and events including Reeperbahn, Eurosonic, London Calling, Paaspop Festival and more. The trio are planning to tour throughout 2019, watch this space for more news.

About Velvet Volume:

We need to go back in time to really understand what Velvet Volume – Noa, Naomi and Nataja are all about. They grew up on The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Siouxsie & the Banshees and later on, Jack White, George Michael and Haim became huge inspirations for them. In 2013, they wrote to a number of Danish festivals asking them to book their band. At that time, they didn’t really have any songs, and had not played live yet, besides the occasional family-events. But one festival took the plunge, Grimfest in Aarhus. The three musicians showed up with their gear and nothing but a bag full of cables… but something happened when they took the stage. People started gathering around the front of the stage and actually listened. “It felt very natural to us”, says Velvet Volume when looking back on that very first festival show.

Velvet Volume started as a band through sisterhood, mutual interests and the need to start making music. “It was very natural for us to play the rock genre, there’s something in its simplicity and brutality that made it very honest to us” they explained. “There are so many versions of that genre and things you can explore and evolve. It just really worked out for us, only to be a three piece band, limited but still fully in control of everything.”
