Nettwerk Records is excited to announce the signing of G Mills, the jazz-inspired hip hop project of Brooklyn-based producer and drummer Gabe Millman. G Mills joins Nettwerk’s expanding roster of instrumental artists that includes The Album Leaf, The Field Tapes, Nathan Kawanishi, Fletcher Reed, Alaskan Tapes, Slumberville, Dreamers Delight, MÒZÂMBÎQÚE, and others.

Gabe has been deeply engrossed in music from a young age, which led to him formally studying jazz, classical, and audio engineering at Ithaca College. His experience and intuitive musicality shine through creative drum programming/playing, smooth chordal structures, and unique sound design. On November 26, G Mills will release Gates, a 5-song lofi/chillhop EP.

About the EP, G Mills had this to say, “I chose the title ‘Gates’ because I lived on Gates Ave in Brooklyn for the majority of the pandemic, which is where I created much of this EP. Besides the obvious reason for the title, I was also finding myself having to get through many mental gates at the time. Especially at the beginning and height of the pandemic, I was overwhelmed with feelings of isolation, anxiety, indecision, and lack of direction. Family, friends, zoom, video games, hikes, working out, cocktails, TV were all things that got me through this time, but a huge one was music, and more specifically, making this EP. It helped free my mind of all the stresses of the world and helped me feel grounded, productive, and fulfilled.

The first track from the EP is “Slippery Slope,” a nearly 3-minute groove with heavy percussion coupled with delayed piano ostinatos and electric piano chords for depth, before finishing off with smooth, floating guitar melodies. “This track was written during the pandemic when I found myself getting lost in anxious mental cycles,” says Gabe. “Working on this track helped get me out of those vicious cycles, ease my mind, and enjoy the moment.
