Aunty Social Drops ‘It Looks Friendly’ EP; Shares QVC Nightmare Video

Toronto-based bedroom pop artist Aunty Social shares her new EP, It Looks Friendly. The brainchild of Daniela Gitto, she has always used Aunty Social as a means of processing her emotional landscape, and she does so alongside collaborator and producer Sam Arion. At the core of Aunty Social’s music is the belief that there is no prescriptive way to function in the world.
She explains, “This collection of songs is an amalgamation of thoughts and ideas that came from questioning my relationship with the world from different angles and frames. The goal to gain freedom through self-reflection inevitably led to questioning which ideas form my worldview, their roots, and what they contribute (or don’t). Whose norm am I departing from and why? How many wounds do I continue to lick, delaying the healing process?” Gitto adds, “The concept behind the artwork is mainly based around the dog cone. The cone prevents cats/dogs from licking their wounds, causing the injury to open up and prolonging the recovery process. I thought it’d be an interesting, symbolic representation of how people can get stuck in a cycle of past painful experiences and the unintentional attachment to that pain.”
Aunty Social also shares the official video for the unreleased single, “Sensory Overload,” the third and final video in a series she created for the record. The third clip completes the dog cone narrative and satire on American consumerism by taking the viewer on a twisted fairytale that combines late-night QVC with Marie Antoinette and more.

Aunty Social sold out her EP release show on September 24th at The Velvet Underground in Toronto, Canada.
The new EP follows her highly acclaimed debut 2020 EP, The Day My Brain Broke. Her talent and artistic abilities have already caught the attention of tastemaker outlets like Under The Radar, Consequence, Flood, Line Of Best Fit, Earmilk, Collide, Ladygunn, Refinery 29, Vanyaland, Ghettoblaster, influential Spotify playlists like Indie Pop, EQUAL, Indie All Stars, Outliers, Fresh Finds, and TV shows like Amazon’s series Panic.
