Lily Kershaw’s New Album ‘Pain & More’ Out Today + Fall Tour with Genevieve Stokes
September 13, 2024 BY Emma Orland
Today, Los Angeles singer-songwriter Lily Kershaw releases her triumphant third full-length album Pain & More. Co-produced by Brandon Walters (Lord Huron), Pain & More is an 11-song collection of exquisite ruminations on her lifelong battle with depression, from the heartbreaking to the humorous. Listen to the album HERE.
“This record is like a new cycle of my life,” Lily admits. “I didn’t really realize how vulnerable I was being until later in the recording process. There is not a lyric or a line in this record that I wrote to further a narrative. It is just the truth.”
Lily’s love of 90s-inspired art-house cinema shines through in the music video for the album’s title track, a lullaby lamenting living in emotional pain and wishing for simple joys. Watch it HERE or below
Lily first introduced Pain & More with the wistful and witty “Depreshmode,” setting the tenor for her defining album – a vivid, if sometimes uncomfortable, whirl of angst, hope and a good dash of humor. She followed with the somber reflection of the past in “Living Room Parties,” the lilting sing-along tale of a toxic relationship “Love Is a Dark Comedy,” the sauntering, earthy-folk song “Americandream,” the piano-based folk ballad “Poem Song,” and the perfectly-titled reflection on human connection “Call Whoever This Makes You Think Of (Except Your Narcissist Ex).”
In support of the album’s release, Lily recently announced a fall tour supporting Genevieve Stokes, which starts in Washington, DC at DC9 on Monday, October 14 and wraps in her hometown of Los Angeles, CA at The Troubadour on Thursday, November 7. All dates are below.
Lily released her debut album Midnight In The Garden in 2013, featuring break-out single “As It Seems.” The album scored millions of streams and critical acclaim as she landed syncs on Criminal Minds, Grey’s Anatomy, Finding Carter, and more. She followed it up with her 2018 EP Lost Angeles and her 2019 sophomore album Arcadia, which received acclaim from Nylon, American Songwriter, Vulture, Earmilk, Refinery29, and more. Along the way, Lily cut her teeth on tours alongside Radical Face, Mason Jennings, The Weepies and Joshua Radin, to name a few, and today has amassed more than 80 million streams.
