Melbourne indie-pop artist Sidney today shares her brand-new single “what if it ends?”, alongside the announcement of her debut EP of the same name, what if it ends?, set for release on February 27 2026 via Nettwerk.

With “what if it ends?”, Sidney delivers the emotional centrepiece of her upcoming project – an upbeat, reflective track that asks the terrifying question at the heart of every love story: if it ends, what remains?

Of the track, Sidney shares, “’what if it ends?’ was written right after a huge career milestone, opening for one of my childhood heroes. I should’ve felt on top of the world, but instead, I panicked. What if that was the peak? What if nothing ever tops this? That fear of hoping too much stuck with me.

“As life moved on, I started relating to the song in a whole new way – especially in my relationship. It’s about how things can look perfect on the surface but underneath you’re not really sure it’s working. We put so much pressure on making the “right” choice, but is that even real? Sometimes the scariest decision – the one that takes real courage – ends up being the best one you ever make.”

Every song in this EP captures the tension of the hopeful optimism and fearful dread I have carried around with me when navigating my twenties. We have all been there too; like if this relationship ends, then what was the point? What if the ending is actually where the best part of my life begins? “I wrote the majority of this EP a year prior to breaking up with my now ex-fiancé; I was so fixated on making the ‘right’ choice. So, each track sits in the tension of two truths at once: wanting to make it work but knowing it’s not right, trying to be present while already grieving, hoping things will last while secretly wondering if they should. The EP moves through that emotional push and pull, from denial and devotion all the way to acceptance and clarity.”
