Martin Kerr Announces New EP, ‘After The Apocalypse’ out 6/28; shares “An Old Prayer”

April 19, 2024 BY Bailey Vigliaturo

Today, poetic Canadian folk-pop artist, Martin Kerr is excited to announce his new EP, After The Apocalypse will be released on June 28th via Nettwerk. The UK-born and Canada-based singer-songwriter acutely focuses on the little things – the small details of his surroundings, the looks exchanged in passing, and the unspoken intention behind our words. He brings these nuances to the surface by superimposing unshakable singalongs over a darker expressive folk instrumentation and inventive indie production on this upcoming new music collection.

Martin shares, “When my kids ask me where I’m going, I say, ‘I’m going to sing for the people’”. It doesn’t matter who the people are, where they come from, or why they’re there; I will sing for them, connect, and give them something to share. I’ve tried to put myself in these songs. It’s the rough with the smooth – warts and all. I’m a bundle of contradictions, so maybe the music is too, in a good way.”

The news of After The Apocalypse comes with the release of his gorgeous second single “An Old Prayer,” a lush soulful ode to nostalgia. “This song wrote itself crazily fast. Less than an hour. It’s abstract, with imagery of broken dreams and empty promises that make up so much of modern life and late-stage capitalism. We’ve been chasing mirages of material happiness, and now that we’ve found they weren’t real, we’re ‘trying to relive every memory,” Martin says on the new track.

Coming off the heels of an accomplished Folk Alliance 2024 performance, Martin is celebrating the news of the new single and EP announcement by heading out on tour with a sold-out date tomorrow April 20th (SOLD OUT) at Yardbird Suite in Edmonton and then making stops in Winnipeg at West End Cultural Centre on April 24thToronto at The Rivoli on May 2nd, and then ending in Burnstown at Neat Cafe on May 3rd. A full list of tour dates can be viewed on his website. “An Old Prayer” is available on all digital and streaming platforms here.
