For Vancouver-based composer, producer, film scorer, and neo-classical  performer Taylor Swindells, transitioning from a musician’s life of travel to stasis when the world shut down in early 2020 was both disconcerting and an  important lesson in appreciating life’s simpler moments. That’s where Swindells dreamed up his new EP, Postcards From The Backyard Part 1, a wordless sonic journey that, through ambient-electronic, piano-driven melody, takes the listener through a spectrum of emotion. There’s hope, wonder, fear, anxiety, and, ultimately, peace. Following up two EPs — The  Golden Hours, Pt. 1 and Pt. 2 — Swindells, who  previously performed in indie-rock outfit The Tourist Company, retreated into his home studio, aptly named The Edge Of The World, to write and produce what would ultimately become Postcards From The Backyard, which draws inspiration from fellow neo-classical composers like Olafur Arnalds and Peter Broderick, house six gorgeous, thoughtful compositions that both reflect the chaos outside his front door and revel in small moments of tranquility with his family. He experimented with tape machines, a century-old piano and even picked up the sounds of his children playing on the stereo mics. Creating this EP through the pandemic was a way to explore other worlds and find moments of inspiration that I used to find traveling abroad at home.”
