Indie-Folk Duo Beta Radio Release Hypnotic Ballad “Find Someone”; Full Length Album Out July 19

June 14, 2024 BY Emma Orland

North Carolina indie-folk duo Beta Radio releases the hypnotic ballad “Find Someone.” Quietly strummed acoustic guitars transform into a snare drum that cracks open the heart of the song, racked with pain but pointing in the direction of healing. Listen HERE and watch HERE.

Ben Mabry reflects, “‘You’re eating dessert, Deep in the desert where you thought you’d be happier there, but that’s where you learn.’ When I read back on this lyric, I think it tells the story of the song. The idea of eating dessert in the desert…it makes me think of someone trying to find some way to feel good in a situation gone bad that they thought was going to make them happy. That same place is also a potent ground for self learning and transformation. ‘Find Someone’ is about thinking that you were going to find whatever it may be you’re looking for: well-being, love, peace, salvation, or whatever you want to call it outside of yourself / in somebody else, and realizing that it won’t be found there.”

“Find Someone” follows Beta Radio’s singles “Halfway in a Dream,” “This One’s Going to Hurt” and “Floating Through,” off their sixth studio album Waiting for the End to Come due out on July 19th.

On Waiting for the End to Come, Beta Radio is not just on the verge of something new; they are in the midst of it. Recorded during a weeklong retreat in Nashville, the two longtime friends, Ben Mabry and Brent Holloman share a creative experience that bordered on the spiritual. After over a decade as bandmates and close friends, the two broke the mold, and for the first time in their careers, they opened up their process to the outside world, working with new songwriters.

If 2021’s Year of Love is about searching for language, answers, and love – Waiting for the End to Come is about finding it. The songs are grounded in a physicality that’s gorgeously set against the sonic wall of acoustic guitars, strings, and the harmonies for which Beta Radio has become so well known. Every song has such an expansive sound for a band that routinely reaches emotional heights while soaring on mystical themes.
