UK Singer-Songwriter Jolé Announces New EP ‘Notes From An Open Book;’ Releases Tender New Single “Betting Man”

June 6, 2025 BY Emma Orland

Today, singer-songwriter Jolé has announces his new EP Notes From An Open Book, out on 3rd October through Nettwerk. The 7-track EP features delicate, wintry vocals that drift gently over intricate layers of piano and acoustic guitar, exploring themes of nature, transformation, love, and fresh starts.

Listen to the new single “Betting Man”, taken from the forthcoming EP. A tribute to the emotional leap of faith that love requires, Jolé puts it best: “I liked the idea of betting on love, and with the right person it’s always a win.” His tender vocals, reminiscent of a lullaby, gently envelop the listener, while rich harmonies and subtle piano chords create an intimate atmosphere. Jolé offers a musical journal that showcases his signature lyrical honesty and captivating storytelling…

Betting Man” follows on from previous singles “Bloom” and “Begin Again”.

Jolé, the musical moniker of Josh Oliver, channels introspection and emotional honesty into Notes From An Open Book, a gentle yet powerful folk-inspired EP. Born in Frome, Somerset, and raised in a musically rich household, Jolé found his voice in the quiet poetry of artists like Bon IverIron & Wine and Sufjan Stevens. After nearly walking away from music entirely, this EP emerged as a personal outpouring.

Bloom” pairs hushed acoustic strums with lyrics about mental and emotional struggle, eventually unfolding into a tender reflection on unexpected love. Written during a season of deep personal change—becoming a father and marrying his long-time partner—Jolé weaves themes of transformation and emotional grounding into tracks like “Nothing Else Matters” and “Begin Again”.

Notes From An Open Book resonates at a time when listeners are craving authentic, comforting sounds. Jolé’s music offers an antidote to industry pressures, embracing vulnerability over commercial polish. His previous songs such as “Alpine Green” and “Picture Perfect” have already reached millions, but this upcoming EP turns inward, prioritising meaning over metrics.

Moving On” shifts perspective, telling the story of a couple parting ways after years in a family home—an experience Jolé imagined while settling into a new house with his own family. It’s a meditation on memory, impermanence, and the quiet weight of change, culminating in the line: “I wished my life away / I didn’t take it in / All the growing pains / And coffee stains.”

“I think a lot changes when you have children – you definitely feel things more powerfully,” he says. “I could really feel the heartbreak in that house, the image of one of the parents standing there and being the last one to leave it all behind.” His message about how we often come to appreciate the small, precious moments all too late is heard in sparse, beautiful phrasing: “I wished my life away/ I didn’t take it in/ All the growing pains/ And coffee stains.” It closes the EP with a powerful, evocative image, as Jolé reminds us that as one chapter ends, another begins.
