August 28, 2020 BY Nettwerk

UK-based artist Joe Alexander Shepherd shares his new single “Alone,” a stirring and emotional piece that showcases Joe’s abilities as an expressive pianist and a skillful composer.

“Alone” is a haunting, heart-felt piano solo, reflecting on the sense of solitude many people have faced during this pandemic… a composition that stirs a perception of melancholy, focusing on the delicate harmonics of the piano strings. It sees Shepherd looking back at his beginnings as a composer, rediscovering delicate and emotional melody lines and taking inspiration from his contemporaries, such as Stephan Mocchio, as well as classical masters, such as Claude Debussy.

About Joe Alexander Shepherd:
Joe Alexander Shepherd is a 28-year-old composer and pianist from York (UK) and a graduate from Paul McCartney’s acclaimed Academy of Music in Liverpool.

Writing and composing music since he was 15 years old, Shepherd mixes modern contemporary-classical with subtle touches of atmospheric melancholy. The piano has always been in the heart of his songs, adding his own unique twist with textural synths to bring the simplistic and minimalistic melodies to life.

Highlights of his work include the music for various advertising campaigns such as UEFA’s World War One Truce video starring footballers Sir Bobby Charlton, Wayne Rooney & Gareth Bale to name a few, Rugby Football Union (RFU), BBC1, BBC2, Land Rover and “We Rise”, a moving piece written for the viral short video Italia, by filmmaker Oliver Astrologo, and a love letter to the country that was so badly affected by the Covid19 virus.

In his recent compositions, Shepherd has delved into his own unique melancholy writing style, taking inspiration from Ludovico Einaudi, Michael Nyman, Dustin O’Halloran and beyond. His first EP Time, came out on Nettwerk in 2018. He will be releasing his second EP early next year, followed by his debut album in the summer.
