The Album Leaf Share New Song “You Are (featuring Saro); Listen Now

Today, prestigious ambient electronic artist The Album Leaf returns with his new single, “You Are (featuring Saro).”  The meditative track starts out with an empowering mantra from the Los Angeles Alternative-R&B singer Saro and builds into energetic electronic crescendos over his smooth vocals. Visionary Jimmy LaValle explains, “When writing the song, I wanted to create something full of emotion, confidence, and strength. I reached out to my frequent collaborators, Clarice Jensen to add Cello, Jake Falby for violin, James McAlister to add more synth textures, and then, Saro to sing. I met Saro a couple years earlier, we spent a day in the studio together, and I loved his voice and delivery. His vocal sits beautifully within the music.”

The Album Leaf began as the solo project of Jimmy LaValle, who came up in the San Diego music scene playing in hardcore bands and the instrumental rock band Tristeza. He had inked a deal to release his next solo album through the indie label Tigerstyle Records, so he put the modest advance towards a self-recording starter setup, building out the sound with occasional studio access. The music that emerged — vivid, rhythmic, soaring instrumentals guided by lines of Guitar and Rhodes — not only set the path for The Album Leaf over the next two decades of acclaimed releases (for Sub Pop, City Slang, and others), it became a touchstone for the next generation’s wave of melodic and meditative electro-organic music.
