SURINAMESE/DUTCH FOLK-POP SINGER-SONGWRITER NÉOMÍ RELEASES SINGLE & VIDEO “THE DOG”
August 25, 2025 BY Bailey Vigliaturo
Following the heartfelt singles “Do You Want To Be Honest?” “Trigger” and “It’s Never Easy (Leaving Someone Behind)”, today Dutch/Surinamese singer-songwriter néomí shares “The Dog”, the latest offering from her forthcoming EP “Another Year Will Pass”, out in October via Nettwerk.
Blending her signature confessional lyricism with the earthy warmth of her folk influences, “The Dog” is a reflective meditation on a relationship that is hard to let go of, told through an unexpected metaphor. With hushed vocals, rootsy guitar textures, and an atmosphere of quiet intimacy, “The Dog” embodies néomí’s gift for turning fleeting moments into deeply human stories. It’s a song that invites listeners to sit with their own memories and find solace in them. The accompanying video by Liz van den Akker is a beautiful depiction of the love and bond beyond humans and dogs, starring néomí’s dog NJ.
“It’s a reflective song on a heavy relationship where I have a hard time letting go,” néomí explains. “I am questioning myself in this conversation I’m having in my head. Was he right? Was I right? Should I have done better? The relationship was officially with a man and not with a dog. The dog is just a metaphor — I wrote this song while walking my dog, NJ. I sat by the water, and it was very quiet. NJ only dipped one paw in the water, creating tiny ripples. He walked towards me and sat next to me. That’s what I mean when you ‘dive into your deepest of thoughts’. All of a sudden, my dog transformed into my ex-boyfriend, and I could have this conversation with him — and with myself.”
néomí is due to head out on a run of UK dates with Josephine Illingworth and la loye in September and will perform her only headline show of 2025 at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw in November featuring a special string quartet accompaniment and much more. She has been nominated for the distinguished artist-led Zilveren Notenkraker Awards in The Netherlands (Sept 30th) – Capping off a stellar year o néomí including an impressive European tour with SYML anda UK run with Seafret as well as a magnificent opening show for The Paper Kites at the prestigious open-air Bostheather in Amsterdam.
Edison Award-winning artist néomí steps into a bold new chapter with Nettwerk in 2025. Known for her intimate folk roots and cinematic soundscapes, she now expands her palette with a fuller, more dynamic edge, exploring self-acceptance, change, and resilience.
From her breakout EPs before and after to her acclaimed debut somebody’s daughter, the Dutch singer-songwriter has earned a loyal following for her soul-baring storytelling. Her latest work, born from profound personal transformation, offers songs that carry both ache and light, inviting listeners to pause, reflect, and find beauty in simply being human.
