Superfan (f.k.a. KALI) Shares New Single “For You”

April 14, 2023 BY Bailey Vigliaturo

Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Superfan f.k.a. KALI shares “For You,” the first offering under his new moniker and of 2023. “I wanted to create space between my project(s) and the *idea* of myself,” Kali Flanagan says of his new chapter as Superfan. “For utmost experimentation in service of spiritual and musical excellence.” The new track ushers in Superfan’s new era with fuzzy guitars, swirling melodies and twinkling electronics.

On the new single, Superfan says, “‘For You’ is a song about being fed up with the feeling of overcompensation in any kind of relationship. I made the song over a couple days as an outlet for my frustrations with not only other people but myself for being passive in my own emotional narrative.”

On the heels of a performance at Brooklyn’s Baby’s All Right earlier this week, Superfan will be performing four shows in Los Angeles. On April 17th, Superfan will be supporting BENEE at The Roxy before a three-show residency at Gold Diggers where he will perform on April 18th, May 23rd and June 20th. Tickets available HERE

In 2017, Superfan released the EP CIRCLES as KALIwhich V Magazine described as “one of the most remarkable debuts you will hear all year,” introducing the young artist with the tracks “Someone to Hold,” “I Just Wanna,” “Lucy,” and “Back to the Start.” A recognized musical talent from a young age, he played a majority of the instruments on the project himself, with additional production from Miro Mackie (The Neighbourhood, St. Vincent, Wallows) and Daniel Chae (of Run River North). The EP synthesized Superfan’s own experiences as a teenager, and those of his friends via stories and recorded voicemails, into a cohesive body of work centered around his self-discovery.

More About Superfan:
A prodigy of sorts, Kali Flanagan grew up playing recitals and covering Beatles songs, taking private lessons with music teachers, going to after-school music programs, and even taking songwriting masterclasses to nourish his passion. Intuitive and eager, he taught himself how to use Garageband and began writing and demoing songs that he would later teach his first band for their shows. His relatable and honest indie-surf arrangements drew sweaty, teenage crowds to local venues like The Smell and led him to his solo work.
