Today, Stu Larsen, the prolific Australian singer-songwriter with a wild streak of wanderlust and a knack for tastefully marrying narrative and melody, shares his new single “I Wish I Had A Foot-Long Cigarette” and announces his new EP, Songs I Wish I Wrote, which will be released on December 23, 2022, via Nettwerk. To celebrate the announcement of his EP and new single release, Larsen will be hitting the road supporting Boy & Bear on their UK and European tour, including dates in LondonAmsterdamStockholmCopenhagenBerlin, and more.

After meeting Ellen Froese while touring and traveling in a van together across Canada, Larsen decided to cover his favorite song by her, “I Wish I Had A Foot-Long Cigarette.” Larsen shares, “I met Ellen Froese in Canada, and we drove around in her van playing shows together. This was my favorite song of hers each night, and I would wake up with it stuck in my head every morning, so I decided to record a little cover of it, but now it’s even more stuck in my head.”

This track is the official introduction to the new EP following Larsen’s previously released single “These Days,” a take on the classic Jackson Browne song. On the EP, he shares, “While I take some time to live life a bit more and find myself again a little I have been loving singing songs from other people. Some of these songs are from friends, and others are from people who I wish were friends 🙂 This little collection of songs is special to me for that reason, I love these people, and I adore these songs, and it is my hope that you adore them as much as I do.

Larsen grew up in a small rural community in Queensland. Around 2010 he decided that he wanted to see the world and experience it as authentically as he could. So, he packed his bags and joined friend and fellow musician Mike Rosenberg, better known by his stage name Passenger, on tour. Stu adopted the nomadic lifestyle that would inform the entirety of his early catalogue – i.e., the debut album Vagabond and follow-up LP Resolute. But, a period of personal upheaval helped inform Larsen’s third full-length outing, Marigold, which saw him dealing with the end of a relationship. He was joined by another longtime friend and fellow musician, Tim Hart (of Boy & Bear), in Sydney’s Golden Retriever Studios.

I Wish I Had A Foot-Long Cigarette” is the second track from Songs I Wish I Wrote to be released on December 23, 2022, is available at all digital retailers here:
