Today, the Jeddah-born, London-based singer and songwriter Hajaj shares his most emotionally charged song yet with the modern soul gem, “Space.” It’s another taste from In the Meantime, the follow-up to his breakthrough 2021 debut, Last Call For Coco. Expertly crafted with his co-producer and co-writer, Aidan Glover, “Space” feels like a watershed moment as Hajaj gives a glimpse into the power and emotional depth he can deliver. Recorded fully analog, the warm, raspy vocals ache and reverberate over swinging R&B rhythms and fiery, melancholic guitars.

He elaborates on the song’s address of intense emotions: “Anger. Betrayal. Overdriven tones interpersed with occasional silence…” he reflects.

“Space” follows recent singles, “The Waiting Room,” “Yours or Mine,” and “Maybe It’s You,” which will all appear on his new EP In the Meantime, out on October 24th. The release comes on the heels of some career milestones, including opening for the legendary Stevie Wonder in London’s Hyde Park, where he captivated thousands of new listeners. The continued success of his debut, Last Call For Coco (over 180M streams to date) has also led to a partnership with Emirates Airlines, sharing his music across their flights as their featured artist.

ABOUT HAJAJ:

Hajaj’s 2021 debut EP, Last Call For Coco, melded elements of the mysterious –  among them, an enigmatic identity on its cover – with deeply personal lyrics about a doomed relationship finally falling apart over issues of identity, expectation, and trust. Today, Last Call For Coco has over 180 million streams and garnered a significant global following, with tracks “High No More” and “Love To Last” receiving almost 140 million streams.

After the success of Coco, Hajaj had the honor of opening for Stevie Wonder at BST Hyde Park in London where he wowed a crowd of thousands. His music also caught the attention of Emirates Airlines, who offered to feature his music in flight and in the airline’s magazine.

On his highly anticipated follow-up EP, In the Meantime, co-written and produced by Aidan Glover, Hajaj has found a home in the sepia hues and solid-state sounds of the ’60s and ’70s. Much like the antiheroes played by Steve McQueen and suave characters of James Bond and Don Draper, Hajaj is both mysterious and classic; an iconoclast in both sound and style. Like the best storytellers and blues masters, on “The Waiting Room,” he explores heartbreak and uncertainty through walking bass lines, soul-pumping backbeats, and raspy melodies. “Yours or Mine” channels danceable funk, and “Maybe It’s You” shows off a healthy dose of sass with punchy horns and a powerful chorus.
