So-Cal Producer Ian Ewing Shares ‘Gail’ Vocal Lofi EP

December 15, 2023 BY Bailey Vigliaturo

Today, lofi/RnB/electronica producer and prolific drummer Ian Ewing shares Gail, his fourth and final EP of 2023. The five-track EP, Ian shares, is dedicated to his late aunt, and contains vocal features from McCall, Madeleine Edwards and Nic Hanson, as well as production assistance from Finnish instrumentalist cocabona. Gail follows the release of two instrumental EPs (Second Summer in March, and Swim in September) and one “vocal lofi” EP (Where I’ll Be in June).

“Gail is… moody, warm, and reflective,” shares Ian on the EP, “providing the perfect soundtrack to the onset of the fall and winter months. The EP serves a very cohesive sound, while spanning lofi hip hop to indie to RnB.”

A self-taught instrumentalist, Ewing grew up in Wisconsin but currently resides in Laguna Niguel, California. He’s amassed millions of streams on his solo catalog, and has collaborated with the likes of Mick Jenkins, Galimatias, Cautious Clay.

Recently, Ewing scored another high-profile collaboration with his remix of “90s” by jazz-R&B artist Braxton Cook and Grammy-nominated R&B star Masego (HERE). Ian’s remix adds a cascading piano and bouncy drums to Braxton and Masego’s sonic homage to Black love, with the track’s back half featuring a new verse from UK melodic rapper Jay Prince. The remix collected nearly 100,000 first-week Spotify streams and received a placement on popular editorial playlist Chilled R&B (2.3M likes).
