So-Cal Alt-Pop Artist Presence Explores Life’s Highs and Lows on “SCARED OF THE FALL!”

So-Cal artist Presence operates on a precipice – between fear and freedom, rock and rap, ambition and acceptance, novelty and nostalgia, adolescence and adulthood, the personal and the universal. Today, he shares “SCARED OF THE FALL!”, the first introduction to his new body of work, out later this year. The new tune reflects Presence’s earlier moody hip-hop, before it takes a turn towards a fiery assault of punk guitars and drums. Listen HERE and watch HERE.
“It really does take you from how people know Presence to how people will in the future,” Presence exclaims. “It does the best job of taking people through that journey.”
A catalyst for Presence’s sonic evolution has been the opening of his artistic process to collaboration. The bold blend of post-punk, heartfelt hip-hop and earnest emo heard on “SCARED OF THE FALL!” was created with Grammy winning producer Sweater Beats (Lizzo, Woosong) and co-writer Gianni Taylor (Bring Me the Horizon). While Sweaters and Gianni appear all over the upcoming project, this was the first song the trio created together.
“The night prior to writing this, I remember thinking to myself, ‘this was a perfect day.’ As comforting as that thought was for a moment, a wave of fear and uncertainty flooded over me immediately after. I thought back to the last time I felt completely at peace, and it was about a year earlier after a month-long trip I had taken to Europe. I remember landing back in California with a whole new hope and outlook on the world… only to hear a slew of awful news from my dad on the drive back home… It felt like I reached the lowest lows of my life, immediately after reaching my highest high. As superstitious as it may sound, it felt like the universe was balancing itself out… This song is about that newfound fear; being scared to see joy, because of the possibility it may just not be what’s meant for me,” he reflects.
Adding to the excitement, Presence has just announced his first-ever headline show at The Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles on February 28th. Fans will be able to hear a preview of his upcoming project for the first time live. Following the LA performance, Presence will hit the stage at SXSW 2024.
