Singer-songwriter Richard Walters shares poignant single ‘Sudden Twilight’
November 8, 2024 BY Emma Orland
After sharing the intimate “Migrations” with Katherine Priddy back in late September, acclaimed singer-songwriter Richard Walters is back with another new track, this time teaming up with talented Nashville-based artist Hugh McDonald, (a.k.a. Fairhazel) for the poignant single “Sudden Twilight”. Listen HERE and below.
Featuring tender Brian Wilson-esque harmonies, “Sudden Twilight” was produced by Luke Sital Singh and described as a song about “letting the light in”. It delves deep into the struggle with depression, capturing the powerful role of family and fatherhood in pulling through the darkness, from despair to hope…
“Last autumn I ended up buying a new piano,” Walters explained. “There’s something about writing on a real piano that can’t be replicated working on a digital version, no matter how good the plugin sound or how loud the speakers – an acoustic piano creates a wraparound of sound and just pulls you in. ‘Sudden Twilight’ is the first song I wrote on the new upright piano. It’s a song about occasional visits from the black dog and how my daughters, and fatherhood, pull me out of my depression again and again.”
“Sudden Twilight” is the second taste of Richard Walters’ upcoming EP, due out early next year. It will feature special collaborations with some of his favourite songwriters/musicians. More details very soon.
