Singer, songwriter, and producer Billy Raffoul releases new single, “We Could Get High”

October 7, 2022 BY Jason Currell

Singer, songwriter and producer Billy Raffoul shares his new single “We Could Get High,” available today via Nettwerk Music Group. “We Could Get High” is Raffoul’s second release since signing with Nettwerk last month, and follows the previously released lush, soothing love song “Better.” Both tracks serve as a much-anticipated introduction into the next chapter of Raffoul’s artistry and were created alongside long-time collaborators Justin Zuccato and Mike Crossey, highlighting the graceful grit of his vocals, and a knack for telling stories straight from the heart.

Yesterday, “We Could Get High” premiered exclusively with Atwood Magazine, and of the captivating, up-tempo tune Raffoul shares, “I wrote this song in early 2019 as part of a more rock-focused album that hasn’t been released (yet!). I’m so happy that this one will finally see the light of day! It was inspired by a track off of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Greetings from Asbury Park.’ The song features a traditional rock band sound. Acoustic guitars, two electric guitars, a bass, drums, and harmonies. In high school, my girlfriend was elected student body Prime Minister. She inspired the song. I wanted it to have a Bonnie and Clyde feeling. It’s about breaking free of the bonds that we (along with society, our teachers, & family), put on ourselves. Or maybe it’s just about cutting 3rd period in your senior year of high school.”

Raffoul made his debut with the 2017 single “Driver,” and following the release of his 1975 EP and The Running Wild EP, delivered his debut full-length, A Few More Hours at YYZ in 2020. The single ‘Acoustic’ generated over 60.7 million Spotify streams as ‘Easy Tiger’ surpassed 19.4 million Spotify streams. The same year, he maintained this momentum with International Hotel and shared bills with Kings of Leon, Kaleo, X Ambassadors and more. Reaching another level, 2021 saw him garner the SOCAN Songwriting Prize for the single ‘Western Skies.’ Next up, fans can hear a sample of the new music as Raffoul makes his way across Canada direct support on JUNO Award winner JJ Wilde’s fall tour.
