Sammy Rae Shares Spirited New Track “Whatever We Feel” + Watch Sammy Rae & The Friends Live From Boston

“swoony, euphoric jazz-rock, pitched somewhere between Lake Street Dive and Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, with Bowers’s soulful vocals at center stage.” — Boston Globe

“easily one of the most captivating live performers around … a tough-to-pin-down swirl of jazz, blues, rock, world and disco vibes, but don’t get too caught up in trying to wrap your head around any sort of concrete Pitchfork definition – just go and see for yourself what the magic’s all about. (‘Cause the magic factor is concrete.).” – Brightest Young Things

“the energetic crew plays an eclectic blend of styles, ranging from funk-inflected pop to plaintive folk-rock to raging rock and roll.” – Seven Days

“Samantha Bowers leads the type of music revolution in which everyone is welcome and anyone can join.” – BK Reader

Brooklyn’s Sammy Rae is back with new music to spread some positivity and gratitude during this uncertain and painful time. The spirited single “Whatever We Feel,” which premiered via Audiofemme, is brought to life with “The Friends,” her touring bandmates born from a collection of talented musicians and friends. Musically, it features the usual suspects in a Sammy Rae composition: a rhythm section, guitar, alto and tenor sax, wurlitzer and hand percussion. It also features Sam on her ukulele, its toy-instrument sound adding to the light, don’t-take-it-too-seriously energy of the song.

She says of the song, “The goal for this song was to evoke the carefree and grateful attitude we all have about this project and touring life.  I wrote each line of the verse with The Friends in mind. The opening line about accenting with socks is a comment on CBass’ accessory of choice and how he dresses up for no one but himself. ‘I been standing up to all of them, I been answering the call for em’ is a comment about Myra and Kaya’s lives in mundane retail and coffee shop jobs before The Friends took off. ‘I quit playing them games’ is about Kellon leaving his job playing professional video games to focus on his music.  It also features lots of group vocals which we tracked live on our last studio day. All 8 of The Friends can be heard singing.”
