Rosie H Sullivan Introduces Tender New Single, “So I’ve Been Told”

A reflective track, So I’ve Been Told illustrates the personal challenges people face everyday and the impact they can have on relationships around them. The concept grew from Rosie’s realisation that no two life stories are ever the same, and that often people are hurting in ways we cannot see. With the use of poetic lyrics and effective imagery throughout the track, Rosie beautifully conveys the grief and anguish of losing a loved one, and the effects it can have on a person for years to come.

Rosie H Sullivan said: “As I have reached adulthood, I’ve learned to be more empathetic and to appreciate the feelings of others. Every person’s life is different, and everyone has their own troubles and challenges, some of which we can’t see. I wanted to highlight that within this track.”

During the recording process, Rosie wanted to ensure her producer, Ross Hamilton, understood the meaning behind the song. The pair discussed the lyrics in depth before recording guitar and vocals separately to ensure Rosie’s true emotions were conveyed.

Subtle sound effects were also added during production; in the second verse, Rosie mentions a woman sitting alone by a fire. In the outro, a crackling fire can be heard behind the gentle guitar rhythms, creating depth and warmth, and adding to the powerful imagery of the track.

Rosie added: “The outro is my favourite part of the whole song; you wait for it to come and it’s quite an ethereal moment. I think it really lifts the track, and it almost sounds like a home demo with the low-fi feeling of the guitar, and the distant vocal ‘she’.”

Now based in Edinburgh, Rosie has been creating music since her teenage years from the Hebrides. Her break came in 2021 with her debut single, So It Is, which she captured in just one take in her parent’s garden. Released in demo form, the single has gone on to pass 400,000 streams on Spotify. The musician is quickly making a name for herself on the Scottish music scene, with the stark beauty and vulnerability of her songs.

This new track is the second in a string of new material from Rosie, who released her last heartfelt single What a Life in October. The track is taken from her debut EP, set for release in early 2023, which Rosie will tour next year.
