Riley Pearce Announces New Album “It’s Your Turn Now” Out 28 June; New Single “Indefinitely” Out Now

February 23, 2024 BY Emma Orland

Indie singer-songwriter Riley Pearce announces that his sophomore album, It’s Your Turn Now will be released on June 28 2024 , via Nettwerk. Showcasing the floating melodies, quietly introspective lyrics, and call for deep connection that have become synonymous with Pearce’s musical output, the record also reveals the life changes that have shaped his life since the release of his debut album The Water & The Rough in 2022.

It’s Your Turn Now is a deep exploration into the journey of entering parenthood and the many realisations, growth opportunities, challenges, and little moments of magic that it encompasses, as Riley reflects on his relationship to the whole process, how it’s affected his relationships with friends and his partner, and this new bigger purpose he’s now discovered.

It is friendship that we find Riley reflecting on in new single “Indefinitely”. Out today, the track also features the lush vocals of UK singer-songwriter Liang Lawrence, as the pair explore the uncertainty and heartbreak we can feel as we grow older and watch our friendships change, and sometimes slip away, as our own lives transform.

The track’s message can be summarised in a single moment, as Riley and Liang’s voices intertwine in a soaring, desperate harmony singing, “when the smoke clears, I hope you reach back out…whenever that may be”.

Of his new single “Indefinitely”, Riley says, “I wanted this song to feel as though you’re chasing after someone in the airport, trying to reach them before they board their flight, perhaps making it, perhaps missing it, but realising there may be this unknown time in the future when your paths will cross again. It’s all the things two people are thinking but might not be able to bring themselves to say. Liang’s voice is such a lovely fit for this song, it’s cosy and delicate and carries all the emotion of the story so perfectly.”

With more than 60 songs released across six EPs and one album since 2016 – amassing more than 75 million streams globally – and music appearing on Netflix shows including ‘Love Victor’ and US TV shows ‘Shameless’ and ‘Shadowhunters’, you’d think it might be hard for Riley Pearce to choose his greatest accomplishment. But it is this current chapter of his life, navigating fatherhood alongside his partner and their young family, that is proving to be his greatest achievement yet.

Of his forthcoming album It’s Your Turn Now, Riley shares, “ This album documents my journey through arguably the biggest shift and upheaval of my life and how I processed it all. The highs, the lows, the grand picture, and the minutiae of it all. It’s the most raw and shell-less I’ve been in my songwriting and I wanted to reflect that in the production a lot of the time too. The album was produced and recorded in my backyard shed-turned-studio and that in itself was a deep end cannonball as much as the transition to parenthood felt like.”

ABOUT RILEY PEARCE:

There’s an ease to the music Riley makes. That’s testament to how effortlessly he became a songwriter. Watching his dad in cover bands inspired him to pick up the guitar. By 17, he was busking at local farmer’s markets—playing Dire Straits and Jack Johnson covers but sneaking in a few original folky compositions about what he saw around him or the relationships he had formed.

Since releasing his first single in 2016, Riley has gone on to release 59 songs, including six EPs and his debut album, 2022’s The Water & The Rough – amassing more than 75 million streams globally along the way. He was awarded WAM Song of the Year in 2017 and 2019, and his single “Bottle It Up” was awarded an Honourable Mention in the Folk/Singer-Songwriter category in the 2021 International Songwriting Competition (ISC). Riley’s music has also been featured on the soundtracks for international TV shows including Netflix’s ‘Love Victor’ and US TV shows ‘Shameless’ and ‘Shadowhunters’.

Riley’s music has garnered support and received acclaim from press and tastemakers around the globe including triple j, Double J, Herald Sun, Music Feeds, Rolling Stone, Atwood Magazine, AU Review, Milky, Music Pixel, Happy Mag, Around The Sound, Alexrainbird Music, Neon Music, and more.
