Portland’s Oatmello Announces Debut Video Game “Dreamsweeper,” Releases Lofi Soundtrack

July 15, 2024 BY Bailey Vigliaturo

Today, Pacific Northwest producer/instrumentalist Oatmello introduces a new dimension to his artistry with his new LP Dreamsweeper (Original Game Soundtrack). The calming collection of lofi beats serves as the soundtrack to Oatmello’s new video game Dreamsweeper, co-created with indie developer Etherlight.

Blending together elements of electronic music, ambient and a unique sound palette of processed bells, struck glass, and nostalgic vocal tones, Dreamsweeper (Original Game Soundtrack) is a cozy backdrop to his debut video game.

“With Dreamsweeper,” shares Oatmello, “I wanted to create a lofi album that bordered on the sleepest and dreamiest sounds possible within the genre. By pairing it with a game, listeners experience a backstory to the album, and through the rhythm battles, focus their attention on the details in the music.

Presenting a lofi inspired take on classic PC game MinesweeperDreamsweeper is a puzzle game set in a dream world where a young girl faces her anxiety and depression. Players advance from stage to stage solving Minesweeper rooms while fighting their negative thoughts and anxieties via a rhythm game based on Oatmello’s music.

“The goal of the video game,” Oatmello shares, “was to blend the cozy nostalgic aesthetic of Game Boy Advance era games with a meditative and calming puzzle game and lofi music. Lofi has always had the ability to calm and soothe listeners so we wanted to make that part of the story, by creating a protagonist who uses lofi music to help heal her psychological distress.”

The album’s singles have already eclipsed 100,000 streams across platforms and have received support from a variety of tastemakers. At radio, singles “Midnight City” and “Lunar Drift” were added to Seattle radio station KEXP and album focus track “Fixtures” was added to Apple Music’s Study Beats playlist in the #8 spot and Tidal’s Slow-Fi playlist in the #2 spot. Fans can also find Oatmello on the cover of Pandora’s Lofi Chill radio station.

Nearly 6,000 fans have already added Dreamsweeper to their STEAM wishlists and you can do the same HERE in anticipation of the game’s release on Wednesday, July 24. For now, stream Dreamsweeper (Original Game Soundtrack) HERE.
