Portair Shares New EP ‘The Place To Start’; Announces New Tour Dates with Mystery Skulls and Me nd Adam

September 22, 2023 BY Bailey Vigliaturo

Australian-born, Los Angeles-based lush, atmospheric indie-pop singer-songwriter Portair shares his new EP, The Place To Start. “The title references the fact our time on earth is so short,” he observes. “It’s about realizing we’re just a blip. For me, it’s comforting knowing we’re all not going to be here forever, but we’re in this together.” He originally brought the record to life during a creative sojourn to Joshua Tree in the same sessions for his third EP, Learning How To Die, imparting a piece of himself on every element, recording each song, and even playing drums in addition to guitar and synths. The result examines existential questions through an enigmatic and entrancing approach steeped in rich soundscape architecture and arresting melodies.

The title track for The Place To Start features additional vocals by Josh Keogh of Amber Run, and EP also includes the recent singles, “Starring,” “Hellbent,” and “Stand In Tall Ovation.” The latter was co-written with Keaton Henson and tackles Portair’s struggles with mental health, so he used the track to give back to To Write Love On Her Arms and Beyond Blue.

The alternative singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, graphic designer/artist has had a busy 2023, just finishing a several-month run on the road that included a south/east coast run with Mystery Skulls, a sold-out Australian tour, and North American tours with Begonia and City Of The Sun. He is excited to share he will rejoin Mystery Skulls for a West Coast run in October, and will first hit the road with Texas Alt-pop band, Me nd Adam. A full list of dates is below.
