Today philine, the rising Dutch singer songwriter, shares her latest single “talking to myself” taken from her exquisite upcoming EP “the side-effects of living in a fantasy” due for release via Nettwerk later this year.
“talking to myself” is a slick, vivid track that stitches elements of melancholic pop and power balladry with philine’s distinctive diary-like lyrical style perfectly distilling the moods and direction of the upcoming EP. It also happens to be the song from which the EP gets its title.
“This song is about living more inside your mind than in the actual world, kind of in a blur. I get told from people a lot that they feel like I’m not really there, like my mind is floating in a different space. The worse my mental health gets, the more I tend to flee to the world that’s inside my head. That’s what “talking to myself” is about. This song, to me, is the song that really captures the heart of the EP.” – philine.

When philine writes a song, she invites everyone to spend a little time inside of her head.
After quietly buzzing out of The Netherlands, the singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist opens her world on her upcoming EP, set to release later this year.
Early on, she recognized the power of music, philine went from penning her own songs in Dutch to writing in English at 11-years-old, to a fully formed solo artist. After participating in a professional songwriting competition as a teen, she recognized her path forward. “That’s when I decided I wanted to be a professional songwriter and musician,” she notes. She attended a conservatory in Rotterdam, logging countless hours in the studio with friends. During 2020, she formally introduced herself with the single “gone.” She further built momentum with her debut so sick of myself EP [2023], generating streams in the millions. Not to mention, she joined Melle for “Old Summers,” which reeled in over 524K Spotify streams. Throughout 2023, she absorbed inspiration from the world around her and wrote what she saw, felt, and experienced.
philine was invited by BANNERS to sing the duet ‘Perfectly Broken’ with him on stage during his Amsterdam show and is supporting Provinz for 4 shows in Germany in April. Her first single ‘green’ was #1 on Spotify’s Fresh Finds: Folk and #1 on Apple’s Global Breaking Singer-Songwriters as well as coverage at The Line of Best Fit, Earmilk, and Atwood Magazine.
