PHILINE ANNOUNCES NEW EP “THE TRUTH OF LIVING IN REALITY” (OUT SEPTEMBER 5TH) WITH INTIMATE NEW SINGLE “JOSIE”

Dutch alt-pop artist philine announces her upcoming EP, the truth of living in reality, set for release on September 5, 2025, alongside the release of her emotionally rich new single “josie” The track offers an intimate introduction to a collection that embraces vulnerability, truth, and the beauty of emotional growth.

“Writing ‘josie’ felt like closing an old chapter,” philine shares. “I realized I was still holding on to a lot of insecurities, feelings of betrayal and confusion from an old relationship. At the time, writing ‘josie’ felt like saying goodbye to her, and like getting the closure I missed. But with time and healing, I’ve come to see how my own insecurities shaped that experience. Letting go of ‘josie’ also felt like letting go of a piece of that inner critic.”

“josie” blends nostalgic piano, glimmering synths, and understated guitar work with lyrics that reflect a turning point. It is a song rooted in heartbreak, but even more about the journey toward healing and clarity.

The EP, the truth of living in reality, is the narrative mirror to philine’s 2024 release, the side-effects of living in a fantasy. While that project explored themes of escapism, overanalysis, and the lure of imagined worlds, this new collection faces real life head-on. It marks a shift from self-imposed illusions to the raw honesty of the present moment.

“I wrote both EPs around the same time, but they reflect two different states of being,” philine explains. “The last one leaned into the fantasy. This one is about facing what’s real, especially in your mid-twenties, when life isn’t always easy or clear. These songs came from learning how to live in the moment, even when that moment is uncomfortable.”
