Old Sea Brigade Soundtracks The Perfect Road Trip With “Mirror Moon”

Old Sea Brigade has released “Mirror Moon,” the Nashville-based, Georgia-born musician’s latest offering from his upcoming new album Motivational Speaking, out May 14 via Nettwerk. Co-written with frequent collaborator Luke Sital-Singh, who Old Sea Brigade partnered with on last year’s All The Ways You Sing In The Dark EP, “Mirror Moon” channels a breezy trip up the California coast (as depicted in the accompanying visual directed by Evan Brace), with lyrics of “a perfect dream” matched by warm synths and hazy production from fellow longtime collaborators Steven Mullan and Owen Lewis. With lines like “I’m never making plans again / I thought I knew my up and downs,” OSB underscores Consequence of Sound’s previous observation about his new album: “It’s funny how some of the best quarantine art hasn’t necessarily come from the COVID-19 era, but pre-dates it.”

In advance of its release, Old Sea Brigade’s Motivational Speaking has been praised as “an ambient and evocative record perfect for 2021” by Atwood, and led American Songwriter to note that “no one could argue against Old Sea Brigade having moved well outside the borders of the ubiquitous acoustic singer-songwriter classification.” The new record finds him championing his Nashville community by teaming with some of the city’s most renowned musicians, including the “Mirror Moon” rhythm section of Tony Lucido (Rhiannon Giddens, Caitlyn Smith) and Julian Dorio (The Whigs, Eagles Of Death Metal), plus Eli Beaird (Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Charley Pride), Cara Fox (Jack White, Old 97s) and many others.
