Old Sea Brigade Shares Stunning “Stayed Up Late (Sunrise Version)” Feat. Paris Jackson
March 17, 2023 BY Bailey Vigliaturo
Following the release of his acclaimed album 5AM Paradise, which received praise from the likes of Consequence, Brooklyn Vegan, East Nashvillian, WNYC, Under The Radar, Boston Globe and more, Old Sea Brigade returns “Stayed Up Late (Sunrise Version),” a stunning acoustic re-working of one of the album’s stand-out tracks, featuring vocals from paris jackson. He explains, “The original demo for ‘Stayed Up Late’ was pretty stripped back, so for the ‘Sunrise Version,’ I wanted to revisit my first production of the song. My friend Paris Jackson kindly agreed to sing on it with me.”
The vivid and moving 5AM Paradise is the third studio album from Nashville-based, Atlanta-born, singer, songwriter, and producer Ben Cramer, aka Old Sea Brigade, who describes it as a coming-of-age record: ten songs that balance youthful abandon with maturity and restraint, full of imaginative flourishes, evocative textures, and graceful melodies that lend magnitude to mundane moments. It’s the follow-up to 2021’s Motivational Speaking, which served as a critical breakout for the musician after earning praise from Consequence for making “some of the best quarantine art” and SPIN as one of their “favorite musicians” of 2021. He spent much of last year on the road supporting 5AM Paradise, opening for Passenger to sold-out shows across North America followed by headline tour dates in both North American and the UK & Europe. He ended 2022 with his national TV debut on CBS Mornings “Saturday Sessions,” where he performed “5AM Paradise,” “Monochrome,” and “Stayed Up Late.

About Old Sea Brigade:
Cramer first introduced Old Sea Brigade with his debut EP Love Brought Weight followed by his 2019 debut album, Ode To A Friend. He’s toured with artists like Passenger, Lewis Watson, and Luke Sital-Singh, developing an undeniable chemistry with Luke that carried over to the studio on the collaborative All the Ways You Sing in the Dark EP. At the same time, Cramer was establishing himself as a sought-after producer to artists from around the world who stopped by his Nashville home studio, including Montreal’s The Franklin Electric, and rising talent from his local community like Braison Cyrus and Paul McDonald.
His 2021 sophomore album, Motivational Speaking, was called “some of the best quarantine art” (Consequence) and “sharply written and infectiously propulsive.” (Uncut). 5 AM Paradise builds on those successes, as he revels in new sounds and ideas and explores the textures of everyday life in songs that make space for doubt and worry alongside joy and pleasure. He leaves his songs unresolved—posing more questions than he answers—so that they reveal more and more of themselves each time you hear them.
