OLD SEA BRIGADE Shares “Stayed Up Late”; New Album ‘5AM Paradise’ out 10/28
July 11, 2022 BY Danielle Romeo
Old Sea Brigade has unveiled the gripping ballad “Stayed Up Late” from his new album 5AM Paradise which – perhaps unexpectedly given those titles – centers on the simple pleasures of “falling asleep at quarter to nine.” Driven by piano and synthesizer, “Stayed Up Late” finds Old Sea Brigade’s Ben Cramer entering his thirties and reflecting on both the hard-earned growth and set of fresh challenges that come with embarking on that new chapter in life. Above everything for Cramer is the desire to grow with the people you love, as opposed to apart from them, and rise through those daunting obstacles by each other’s side.

Praised for fusing “warm, lovely Americana” (Brooklyn Vegan) with “synthesizers reminiscent of Joy Division” (KUTX), 5AM Paradise was recorded by Old Sea Brigade in the Blue Ridge Mountains high above Asheville, North Carolina with his longtime friends and close collaborators Owen Lewis and Jeremy Giffith. Each handles synth duties on “Stayed Up Late,” masterfully balancing Cramer’s emotive piano performance alongside equally striking contributions from Eli Beaird (Willie Nelson, Ruston Kelly), Kris Donegan (Mickey Guyton, Hayes Carll) and drummer Julian Dorio of The Whigs.
5AM Paradise follows the Nashville-via-Georgia songwriter’s 2021 full-length Motivational Speaking – praised as “some of the best quarantine art” by Consequence – and a cross-country tour through some of North America’s most iconic venues earlier this year (including New York’s Town Hall and San Francisco’s Fillmore) alongside labelmate Passenger. More 2022 tour dates in the US and beyond will be announced in the near future.
