New Zealand’s Graeme James Releases New Single + Announces Tour

August 17, 2018 BY Nettwerk

“…grin-inducing, chipper pop folk sounds…a positively masterful array of instrumental expertise coupled with knee-weakening velveteen vocals…” – Indie Shuffle

Acclaimed New Zealand singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Graeme James shares new single “The Times Are Changing,” the first from his Nettwerk debut album The Long Way Home  (release date tba).  He’s also announced his first-ever tour of the U.S. starting September 29th in Fayetteville, NC and wrapping November 21st in Vancouver, BC. Graeme has built a large and loyal fan base throughout New Zealand with his captivating live shows and unique folk style, performing with the aid of a loop pedal to layer electric violin, guitar, bass, baritone ukulele, mandolin, harmonica, percussion, and beatboxing in his one-man-band sound.

Graeme says of the song, “‘The Times Are Changing’ was inspired by faded aerial photograph from the 1960’s that I found while on holiday. The lyrics are an attempt to capture the bittersweet emotion you feel when you look back and reflect on the changes both in and around you. It’s knowing that nothing will ever be the same, while realizing that this fact is the very thing that makes the present both meaningful and exciting.”

The past couple years have been a whirlwind for Graeme, who self-released his debut album News From Nowhere in September 2016, which peaked at #3 on the New Zealand album chart, #26 on the Top 40 album chart and was a finalist in the 2017 Vodafone Music Awards for NZ Folk Album of the Year. His breakout singles, “Alive” and “One + One,” have racked up over 3 million plays between them, and “Alive” placed second in the singer songwriter/folk category of the international songwriting competition Unsigned Only.

Graeme spent the better part of a year touring in support of News From Nowhere, including a string of sold out shows across New Zealand as well as a summer of national and international festival appearances, cementing his reputation as a captivating live performer and recording artist.

Surpassing 15 million combined streams on Spotify, Graeme is one of New Zealand’s most streamed indie artists. With a huge number of these coming from North America, he is excited to meet American fans for the first time.
