New Signing: The Outdoor Type (Self-Titled EP Out Now)

June 23, 2016 BY Nettwerk

“If you talk about bands like The War on Drugs as Americana, The Outdoor Type is the epitome of Australiana” – Indie Shuffle

“Brings to mind the work of The Church and The Go-Betweens, two of Australia’s finest alt-rock bands” – WXPN Philadelphia

“It’s hard to believe this is the first we’re hearing of the Melbourne artist, and we can’t wait for more” – Tonedeaf

Nettwerk Records is pleased to announce the signing of Melbourne-based The Outdoor Type, aka singer/songwriter Zack Buchanan.

While the name will still be new to many, The Outdoor Type has been picking up fans worldwide after the release of last year’s debut EP.  The self-titled EP delivered two tracks – “Are You Happy” and “When The Sun Goes Down” – which, both landed on Triple J radio and reached #1 on Australia’s non-comm radio chart.

Later that year, Buchanan followed-up with the self-produced single “On My Mind.”  Mixed by Steve Schramm (Little Red, San Cisco) in Melbourne, “On My Mind” is a lively, scrappy rock song with a driving groove and a instantly catchy melody.  Nettwerk is excited to share in the worldwide release of both the EP and the single.

“We’re thrilled at Nettwerk to be working with The Outdoor Type.  They’ve emerged out of a thriving music scene in Melbourne, their music is at once reminiscent of some of the great 70s acts like Crosby Stills and Nash and Lou Reed right through to current acts like War on Drugs and fellow Melbournite Courtney Barnett.  It’s young days for Zach Buchanan and The Outdoor Type, but we expect great things from this promising artist,” says Mark Jowett (President, International, A&R, Publishing).

EP Track List:

  1. When The Sun Goes Down
  2. Are You Happy
  3. I Tell You What I See
  4. Onions And Avocados
  5. Day To Day
