Nettwerk is pleased to announce the addition of Australian singer-songwriter and producer Hayden Calnin to its label roster.

“Signing to a label was something I was never looking to rush into. This is a big thing for me going in; I’ve never been good at being told what to create. I’m happy to be a part of a family where I’m in great company with many Aussie friends and labelmates, including longtime collaborator Harrison Storm,” says Calnin.

Calnin partnered with Atwood Magazine to premiere his latest track “Fuck Collingwood,” from his forthcoming Nettwerk debut EP A Life You Would Choose (Out September 13). It’s been two years since Calnin has released anything new and his return is an articulation of feeling trapped and watching the world move around him, rather than move with it. He had been living in and around Collingwood (an inner-city Melbourne suburb) for the last decade. Concrete and apartments just stopped being appealing and he was left feeling uninspired with his surroundings. His frustration reached a tipping point and he knew he had to get out of the city, so he moved down to Shoreham on the Mornington Peninsula, and hasn’t regretted a single second of it.  He spent a few months refining it down in his new home near the beach, which felt like closure and the beginning of a new chapter in life.

I’d been living in and around Collingwood, a suburb of Melbourne, for the last 10 years. It’s such an incredible place, full of live music and art, however, it got to a point where I really just needed to get away from it. I’ve loved it, I’ve hated it, and finally, I’d left it. ‘Fuck Collingwood’ is reflecting on the things that led me to leave the city for something a little less chaotic.  Adding, “I’m at a place in my career where I can choose who I want to be, and I can’t wait to show everyone all my new ideas and future work.”

Calnin is the latest addition to Nettwerk’s expanding label roster, which includes fellow Australian artists like Angus & Julia Stone, Boy & Bear, The Paper Kites, Hermitude, Mallrat, Stu Larsen, Harrison Storm, Garett Kato, and John Butler Trio.

Stay tuned for more news from Hayden Calnin.
