Nettwerk to reissue influential Skinny Puppy LPs for the first time in 25 years

October 5, 2018 BY Nettwerk

Drawing from the pioneering work of artists like Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, and Suicide, electronic/avant-industrial icons Skinny Puppy exploded onto the music scene in the early 1980s, fusing elements of new wave, techno, film-noir, and innovative sampling. Lead by cEvin Key (Kevin Crompton) and Nivek Ogre (Kevin Ogilvie), the band quickly garnered a loyal international fanbase.

Following on from last year’s reissue of cult classics Remission and Bites, Nettwerk will be reissuing Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse & Cleanse Fold and Manipulate on 26th October. Both LPs will be restored to their original designs. You can pre-order them at your local record stores and online retailers including Rough Trade and Amazon.

Released in 1986, Skinny Puppy’s second studio album Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse is infamous for both its pornographic album photo (the political backlash resulted in the Parental Advisory Label) and for inspiring the next generation of Industrial Music contemporaries (Nine Inch Nails) with tracks like “Dig It” and “Stairs and Flowers“.

Their third album Cleanse Fold and Manipulate was released in the summer of 1987 and drove deeper into socio-political issues that the band cared about such as Aids and PTSD. Featuring classic cuts “Deep Down Trauma Dogs” and “Addiction,” it was supported by the Head Trauma world tour featured in their 1989 live film Ain’t It Dead Yet

Watch & Share – “Dig It” (Official Music Video):

As pioneers of industrial-rock and electro-industrial, over the years the band continue to influence a broad spectrum of artists. From Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Filter, to Grimes, Yannis Philippakis (Foals), Crystal Castles, Youth Code and more. They all took inspiration from Skinny Puppy’s unique sound and infamous live performances.

Skinny Puppy formed in 1982 from the partnership of cEvin Key and Nivek Ogre in Vancouver, Canada.

Key was dissatisfied with the pop direction of his then current band Images in Vogue and began Skinny Puppy with the intention of doing something more raw and experimental. The duo recorded their first self-released cassette “Back & Forth” in 1984, with help from Dave “Rave” Ogilvie. This was the beginning of a long partnership between Skinny Puppy and Rave, who would serve as their producer until 1993, again in 1995, and was occasionally listed as a member of the band in album liner notes. Back & Forth drew the attention of record label Nettwerk, who signed the band later that year.
