Nettwerk Records Signs Icelandic Electronic Pop Band Vök; Band Announceds Debut Album ‘Figure’ Out April 28 And UK & EU Tour Dates; Watch Official Music Video For “Show Me”

Nettwerk Records is thrilled to announce Icelandic electronic pop band Vök to its growing and diverse roster.  The band will release their highly anticipated debut studio album Figure on April 28 via Nettwerk Records.  Recorded with producer and Jack Garrett collaborator Brett Cox, the album follows two critically acclaimed EPs Tension (2013) and Circles (2015).

Figure sees the Reykjavík-based band taking their sound to new heights.  The album is full of distorted pulses, near-whispered melodies, echoing guitars and dreamy hooks.  Influenced by everything from The Weeknd and Little Dragon to existential sci-fi cinema, their ambitious first full-length spans a whole spectrum of sounds and emotions.

“Anger, obsession, negligence, death, love, happiness and hope,” lists lead vocalist Margrét Rán (who began the band with saxophonist Andri Már in 2013).

Directed by Hörður Freyr Brynjarsson of Eyk Studio, the video for first single “Show Me” was filmed during one of the darkest periods of Iceland’s winter. The video utilizes the dark, casting its scenes in a deep, gloomy hue. Hörður contrasts the country’s natural darkness with his use of neon and fluorescent light, making every splash of color, from the headlights of a car to the vibrant yellow of a cocktail into a major visual event.  Watch & share the “Show Me” official music video above.

For Vök, Figure has been three life-changing years in the making. After winning Icelandic rising talent contest Músíktilraunir (previously winners include Of Monsters and Men, Mammút, and Samaris) within months of forming, the group marked themselves out as innovative makers of smart and smoldering jams.  Figure was mostly written in Margret’s cozy studio in Reykjavik, over “endless cups of coffee” in front of spectacular views of the city they call home. The tracks were then taken to drummer Einar Stef’s home studio, where they recorded with producer Brett Cox, who was recently nominated for Young Producer of the Year at the Music Producers Guild Awards and whose stamp is keenly felt on the finely detailed Figure.

Vök is the latest addition to Nettwerk’s expanding label roster, which includes artists like Mr Little Jeans, Hermitude, The Veils, Harrison Brome, Savoir Adore, BOY, Radical Face, Boxed In, as well as catalogue artists like Angus & Julia Stone and fun.

Vök will tour throughout 2017 in support of Figure.  See dates below.
