Neo-Classical Artist Neighborhood Libraries Shares New EP ‘Postcards For The Backyard, pt. 1’

Today, Vancouver-based composer, producer, film scorer, and neo-classical performer Taylor Swindells aka Neighborhood Libraries, shares his new EP, Postcards For The Backyard, pt. 1. Swindells, who previously performed in indie-rock outfit The Tourist Company, recorded the EP at his home studio, aptly named The Edge Of The World, drawing inspiration from fellow neo-classical composers like Olafur Arnalds and Peter Broderick. The project began while Taylor was transitioning from a musician’s life of travel to stasis when the world shut down in early 2020. He started to create ambient-electronic, piano-driven music that helped him work through his feelings of hope, wonder, fear, and anxiety and ultimately enabled him to seek peace.
Recorded primarily during the lockdown phase he explains, “Instead of being frustrated, I’m trying to find ways to be present and find the beauty in the immediate, as opposed to always trying to find that somewhere else. Creating this EP through the pandemic was a way to explore other worlds and find moments of inspiration that I used to find traveling abroad at home.”
For the EP, Taylor elaborated on this concept by filming a series of videos at his house, one for each track, to illustrate the feeling of calmness in our daily lives and to help set the vibe for each song.
