NEO-CLASSICAL ARTIST NEIGHBORHOOD LIBRARIES ANNOUNCES NEW EP POSTCARDS FOR THE BACKYARD, pt. 2

February 10, 2023 BY Jason Currell

Today, Vancouver-based composer, producer, film scorer, and neo-classical performer Taylor Swindells aka Neighborhood Libraries, announces his new EP, Postcards For The Backyard, pt. 2. Taylor, who previously performed in indie-rock outfit The Tourist Company, recorded the EP at his home studio, aptly named The Edge Of The World, drawing inspiration from fellow neo-classical composers like Olafur Arnalds and Peter Broderick. Part 1 of the project began while Taylor was transitioning from a musician’s life of travel to stasis when the world shut down in early 2020. He started to create ambient-electronic, piano-driven music that helped him work through his feelings of hope, wonder, fear, and anxiety and ultimately enabled him to seek peace.

“Postcards for the Backyard Pt 2 is about finding beauty in the immediate, craving quiet in an increasingly noisy timeline. After nearly a decade spent touring, this collection of songs tries to leave that restlessness behind and build a place to belong,” Taylor says of the upcoming EP.

Taylor also releases a stunning new single and video “As The Smoke Begins To Clear.

Taylor describes the new single, “’As the Smoke Begins to Clear’ is about the end of an era and the beginning of something new. My current life-stage seems to be full of those moments of uncertainty and I always feel strange navigating them. This piece pulls many threads together to find a blurry sense of direction, not clear but still purposeful.”

He continues, “We’ve had a lot of forest fire smoke in Vancouver over the past few summers, making climate chaos a pretty consistent part of life. The title comes from the day after a heavy rain finally drives the smoke away and it gets easier to breathe for a while.”

Stay tuned for more to come from Neighborhood Libraries soon.
