Nashville Singer, Songwriter & Producer Phillip LaRue Is All In On Romantic New Single “Ships”

May 26, 2023 BY Jason Currell

Nashville-based singer, songwriter and producer Phillip LaRue releases his latest single, “Ships,” about leaving everything behind for someone and not looking back. The up-tempo track is off his forthcoming album Colors out July 14th with Nettwerk. Purchase and stream HERE.

“Truthfully this song was inspired by a deep conversation I had with friends on my back porch. After chatting with them, I kept hearing the phrase ‘burn the ships,’ and I thought about my love, Lisa. Despite my past, despite the pain of loss in both of our lives we somehow met each other randomly. It wasn’t random, though, and I believe God knew what he was doing in the background of our stories. I was determined not to co-write this one and tackle it on my own and remind myself of who Lisa is, who she will always be. She’s worth burning all the ships for…even my pride, ego and ideals,” elaborates LaRue.

LaRue first introduced the Colors album with a pair of EPs, September 2022’s It All and March 2023’s Thank You JuneColors is made up of the songs from these releases, including stand-outs like “It All,” “Amen,” and “Never Break,” and along with three previously unreleased tracks that tie the full album all together.

LaRue adds about the album, “I tried to make this feel like a road trip album. Listen, roll the windows down, and get out of it whatever you need. I’m being honest with myself. So, maybe this helps you ask questions, look at the moment from a different point-of-view, be honest with yourself, and create a lasting memory. If I can be a part of your story in a tiny way, that would be super cool.”
