Montreal Electronic Producer Brings A 21st Century Twist to Herbie Hancock’s “Come Running To Me”

January 21, 2022 BY Jason Currell

Today, Montreal-based electronic producer Nico Dupuis aka Anomalie officially announces his forthcoming full-length album Galerie due out April 29th via Nettwerk Records. In addition, Anomalie shares his modern spin on Herbie Hancock’s 1978 funky groove, “Come Running To Me.” The fresh arrangement brings the cut into the 21st century while paying homage to the jazz/funk legend. Anomalie gives an out-of-this-world update to the signature vocoder vocals, a fantastic facelift of the original. Hear “Come Running To Me” on all digital retailers (here).

Anomalie elaborated on his love for Herbie Hancock and how the track came to be:

“Herbie Hancock is one of my biggest inspirations and I was completely mind blown the first time I listened to his album “Sunlight” – his use of the vocoder and synths within the context of his rich arrangements were revolutionary. I started arranging my version of “Come Running to Me” last year just for fun, dropped a snippet on social media and have had people asking for a full version since then so it made sense to have it on the album. Also, if it weren’t for Herbie, I probably wouldn’t even have started Anomalie so having this be a part of the Galerie project feels very full circle.”

“Come Running To Me” follows recent releases “Bond” and “Dribble,” which will also appear on his highly anticipated full-length release. Galerie is due out April 29th via Nettwerk and will be followed by the Galerie World Tour which kicks off in in Dallas, TX at the Deep Ellum Art Company on May 18th. Anomalie is the music project of Nicolas Dupuis, a keyboardist and producer based in Montreal, QC.

Rising to worldwide fame after the release of his two EPs, Metropole Part I and Part II, Anomalie has developed a distinct and instantly recognizable musical identity. His style innovatively combines cutting-edge electronic production, jazz and classical harmonies, virtuoso keyboard skills, and an undeniably raw funk groove connecting it all together. This places his career in a singular position. His public cosigns include an eclectic mix of music heavyweights (Charlie Puth, Chromeo, D Smoke, and Snarky Puppy), and his fanbase is a mix of the new jazz scene (Louis Cole, Keifer), the soulful beats scene (FKJ, Masego, Tom Misch), and the post-dubstep electronic scene (Griz, Odesza, Opiuo).

By the end of 2020, Anomalie sold out two world tours (North America, European, and Asia) with his intricate 4-piece live band, grew his online following in the millions across social media, and performed at the likes of Red Rocks, Montreal Jazz Festival, and Electric Forest Festival.
