MON ROVÎA RELEASES NEW SINGLE “OLD FORT STEEL TRAIL” AHEAD OF HIS DEBUT ALBUM BLOODLINE, OUT JANUARY 9, 2026

December 15, 2025 BY Bailey Vigliaturo

Mon Rovîa shares his new single “Old Fort Steel Trail,” the latest track from his forthcoming debut album Bloodline, arriving January 9. Set against the folk sound at the heart of his music, the song explores where Mon comes from and how those experiences, from Liberia to the U.S., continue to shape him.

Mon shares, “The road I lived on for three years near Olney Montana is set in my mind. If it weren’t for the two boys who lived to the right of us, I don’t think the memories would have stayed as long. There was a river behind our house that ran for miles. We used to walk up it, barefoot, against the current. Our parents never asked where we were. We were one with nature, one with the hush of pine and water.

Mon continues, “This song came from that river. From the dirt under my nails. From the weight of questions. I’ve been circling ever since, picking up stones, casting some, carrying others. Don’t stare too long at your mistakes without action. And once you have done the work, lay it to rest. Don’t continue grave robbing yourself. Little by little, I’m learning to put the past down.”

“Old Fort Steel Trail” distills these memories into one of Mon’s most vivid, atmospheric songs yet, a piece that bridges childhood innocence with the emotional reckoning at the heart of his debut album.

Bloodline is a sweeping 16-track project exploring themes of memory, identity, war, migration, grief, and resilience, serving as both personal memoir and collective testimony. The album features previous singles “Oh Wide World,” “Running Boy,” “Heavy Foot,” “Whose Face Am I,” and “Field Song.” “Old Fort Steel Trail” expands the story further, capturing the emotional urgency and spiritual clarity that run through the album.

The release follows a remarkable year for Mon. He completed his entirely sold-out A Place To Gather North American headline tour, and performed at major festivals and iconic venues, including Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, Newport Folk Festival, Boston Calling, and Red Rocks.

This fall, Mon headlined the ACLU’s Creatives For Freedom benefit alongside Sheryl Crow, Maggie Rogers, Mark Ronson, and Joy Oladokun, and took the stage at the Children in Conflict annual benefit with Common and Natasha Bedingfield, hosted by John Oliver — two standout moments that underscore the growing cultural impact of his humanitarian lens. He was also recently featured in NPR’s story on rising TikTok protest anthems surrounding his breakout single “Heavy Foot,” and made history as the first-ever musical guest on The Mel Robbins Podcast.

With 200 million lifetime streams, over 2.4 million followers across platforms, more than 1 billion TikTok views, and nearly 100,000 pre-saves already for Bloodline, Mon Rovîa continues to emerge as one of the most vital new voices in contemporary folk.
