Miya Folick Shares New Single “La Da Da” (out 9/13) + On Tour With Faye Webster Now!
September 16, 2024 BY Bailey Vigliaturo
Vocalist, songwriter, and producer Miya Folick returns tomorrow with “La Da Da,” her first single since her critically acclaimed 2023 album, ROACH. The ’90s alt-rock revivalist track delves into themes of identity and desire, capturing Miya’s honest self as she explores the tension between her romantic reality and her innermost yearnings. Listen to the song produced by Folick and co-written by Richard Orofino (Bloomsday, Stephen Dawes) and Aidan Spiro (Dreamer Boy, Petey)— here and watch the visualizer here.
Miya adds, “I wrote La Da Da in a period when I was actively pulling away from a pace of life that didn’t suit me. I was slowing down, saying no, responding when I actually had an answer, and asking for the things I specifically desired rather than the things I thought I was supposed to want. I was turning things in late and taking my time to get them right.”
Folick is on tour supporting Faye Webster across numerous sold-out North American dates with headline West Coast dates to follow this October—see full routing below and tickets on-sale here. Over the past year, she has toured with Mitski, opening her 5 sold-out London shows and with The Japanese House in North America. She also performed at Project Pabst in Portland along with Big Thief, Day in Day Out Festival in Seattle, Austin City Limits, Life is Beautiful in Las Vegas, and recently headlined Echo Park Rising in Los Angeles.
Miya is no stranger to writing for film and TV– last year she scored an official soundtrack to the Apple Original series The Buccaneers and saw her 2018 track, “Freak Out,” in the viral show Heartstopper. This past June, her original score for the film Cora Bora, directed by Hannah Utt and featuring Meg Stalter (“Hacks”), was released across theatres.
Raised in Santa Ana, CA, and now living in Los Angeles, Folick first attracted acclaim with two EPs, 2015’s Strange Darling and 2017’s Give It To Me EP. Folick’s 2018 Terrible Records/Interscope debut album Premonitions and 2023’s release ROACH drew critical praise from NPR, GQ, Pitchfork, The FADER, Stereogum, Brooklyn Vegan, Under The Radar, CLASH, NYLON, Cosmopolitan, and many more.
Stay tuned for more to come from Miya Folick.
