Mississippi Lyrical Lofi Artist Laeland Shares New Album ‘look at the mess we made’

August 25, 2023 BY Jason Currell

Today, Mississippi-based rapper-singer-producer Laeland (an acronym for Let’s All Embrace Love and Never Die) shares his new album look at the mess we made via Nettwerk. The 10-track project tacks on new songs to his March EP Love Is Killing U, Vol. 1. Notably, Laeland (born Bradley Davis) has some form of production credits on each song.

“I wanted to connect the feeling of randomly dropping a glass to a relationship,” he states. “You think you’ve got a good grip on what’s going on, but something is completely flipped out of your hands into a million pieces. How do we put it back together? It’s an observation. Look at this mess we allowed to happen. What are we going to do about it?”

look at the mess we made is deeply personal, with the only features coming from frequent collaborators (and fellow Nettwerk signees) Snøw and Skinny Atlas. The outro on “dear lovrr” features a surprise guest: Laeland’s mother, who leaves a tender voicemail. With the project, Laeland hopes for listeners to find solace in his opening up about his personal struggles.

“I don’t know where I’d be mentally without certain songs I love,” he leaves off. “If you’re struggling with anything and my music helps you in any way, that is beyond a privilege and honor. My number one priority is making sure anyone who listens to me feels better.”
