MEL BLUE SHARE SINGLE “SECRET CRUSH”

August 25, 2025 BY Bailey Vigliaturo

Electronic trio Mel Blue share the latest single “Secret Crush” from their upcoming, recently announced album “nomorejacketsplease” out September 26th on Nettwerk.

The single is a high-energy dispatch fusing ghettotech, footwork and juke into a loving collage of peak time rave carnage and freedom. As the band explains;

“Secret Crush is a song that started out as a joke that just got out of hand. The tempo, the extreme pitch shift on the vocals, the synths in the outro that sound they were mashed out of a keyboard with two index fingers, the hyperpop-esque autotune, and even the lyric “secret crush” – we couldn’t stop giggling when we were making it. We left the session with no intention for the song to ever see the light of day. But of course, like all the other songs that started out as goofy jokes just for us, the more time they lived the more we grew to love them.

“The groove and arrangement is ghettotech, jersey, and footwork inspired. I stumbled across a youtube video by the creator Stranjah that introduced me to footwork a few years back. Since learning about the styles through him I’d always been keen to make a footwork track. Oscar loves Jersey, especially as it’s another genre that blends the r&b and dance music elements we love. The different 808s and kick patterns all came together as we were trying our hand at this style.”

Mel Blue are an electronic trio bridging nostalgia and modernity with euphoric, genre-blurring dance music. Splitting their time between Sydney and London, Oscar Sharah, Jacob Siles, and Luke Gerber craft introspective yet rhythmically rich soundscapes influenced by jungle, UKG, breakbeat, and house. Their upcoming album nomorejacketsplease (out September via Nettwerk) marks a bold sonic evolution—infused with fast tempos, brooding synths, and deeply personal storytelling.

Inspired by the raw pulse of London’s club scene and artists like DJ Rashad, Underworld, and Massive Attack, the album reflects the highs and lows of rebuilding life abroad. From the frenetic energy of “Frake” to the soulful bounce of “$ame Thing” and the catharsis of “Diamonds,” Mel Blue explore uncertainty, friendship, and growth with fearless experimentation and emotional clarity.

A soundtrack to reinvention, nomorejacketsplease channels the trio’s perseverance into a danceable, heartfelt portrait of artistic rebirth.
