After a chaotic few years of relocations, career curveballs, and near implosion, today Australian dance music trio Mel Blue deliver a brand-new breakbeat, miami bass and high-tempo hybrid ‘Frake’; a cut which leaves their house roots in their wake. Listen here.

Band member Oscar Sharah explains; “we came into the studio not really sure where we wanted the music to go. After a couple of tumultuous years moving countries and with our lineup adjusting, we weren’t actually even sure if Mel Blue would be continuing. Feeling particularly inspired after a talk with one of our close friends, Luke and I spoke at length about not holding back musically. We knew that we needed to approach our time in the studio with fearlessness.

“In that first session, ‘Frake’ just fell out of us. It really felt like we were in a trance. We came to and suddenly there was this new song. At a much faster tempo than our house music roots; with a breakbeat; and drawing from miami bass, it was a sound we had never explored. It was exciting in a whole new way, and it really lit a fire in us to continue making music.”

Mel Blue, who split their time between Sydney and London, are on a mission. Drawing from a pivotal and transformative time embedded deep in UK bass culture, ‘Frake’ find Mel Blue in unapologetically new territory.
