Mel Blue today announce their new EP, “Back Then, Computer Sound” due for release on Nettwerk in Oct. To mark the occasion, they also share a joyous new track “My Heart’s in Your Hands”.

“My Heart’s in Your Hands” is a fun, energetic and euphoric slice of retro and lo-fi house that perfectly encapsulates the whole concept of the trio’s new era and upcoming EP.

“In giving your heart over to someone there is excitement, euphoria, adrenalin, fear, and tremendous joy. The most extreme emotions you can experience are compressed into moments. Especially, the moment where you decide to take the risk and let your heart grow as big as it wants to. That’s where “My Heart’s in Your Hands” came from, and it might be the most fun we’ve ever had writing a Mel Blue track.”

The now London-based trio consisting of Oscar Sharah, Jacob Siles, and Luke Gerber draw heavily from a universal feeling of wistful nostalgia. At once imbuing their dance music with retrospection and modernity, bringing the past and present together to create a sound that is as vulnerable as it is forward thinking. Mel Blue wants you to reminisce without regret.

“Back Then, Computer Sound” EP serves as a mission statement for the group. Since their formation, they have always drawn from nostalgia. As time has gone on, exactly what and why this is has become clearer. They describe the process as a continual search to recreate and represent the feelings of first discovering electronic dance music as kids. The joy, euphoria, warmth, and simplicity of loops that cycle on and on in this sound have helped them make sense of the world and each of their place in it.

The trio collectively expands, “in our own songs, we are always seeking to draw from the back-then-computer-sound. This EP is our celebration of and love letter to the disco-inspired, horn-section-filled, and relentlessly joyful house music of the 90s and 2000s.”

Originally high school bandmates coming up through Sydney’s music scene, Mel Blue have spent years honing their unique sound and live performance style. Across the new EP’s 6 tracks, Mel Blue demonstrates continuation and refinement of this delicate balancing act of exuberance and wistfulness and delve even further into the heart of dance music.

Forever obsessed with English and French electronic music, the trio uprooted and moved to London in 2023 in pursuit of being in the epicenter of that distinctly European influence and music history. The experience has led the trio to lean heavily into house and finesse the intricate task of performing electronic music live. With a setup that is constantly evolving, Mel Blue performs as a 3-piece with synthesizers, drum machines, bass guitar, and vocals.
