Martin Kerr Gets Playful w/ “The Good Stuff”; Currently on tour w/ Dermot Kennedy

October 13, 2023 BY Emma Orland

Today, poetic Canadian folk-pop artist, Martin Kerr is excited to share the playful and uplifting “The Good Stuff.” Written after a long 12-day intensive songwriting trip in Nashville, Martin reached full exhaustion until a final session with a team called Vinyl Pinups. With inspiration from their 9-month-old baby, “The Good Stuff” had a blueprint and they wrote the song in a matter of hours. Excited to play the new song live, Martin is in the midst of a special Canadian supporting tour with Dermot Kennedy stopping in cities such as Ottawa, Edmonton, Winnipeg, and more. More information can be found here and “The Good Stuff” is available on all digital platforms here.

Martin shares on “The Good Stuff,” “….Their 9-month old baby was with us at the session, as she wouldn’t go down for her nap. We were trying to concentrate and write something but we kept getting distracted by the baby knocking things over and trying to sing along: “aaa-aaa -ooo-ooo!” Eventually I said, what if we put that in the song? So we all started singing ‘aaa-aaa -ooo-ooo’ and that got us going.”

The Edmonton-based troubadour knows exactly how he wants to write his songs. Through heartfelt lyrics, delicate instrumentation, and sparse production, Martin explores the nuances of everyday life as well as its wonders with a poetic and poignant perspective. “The Good Stuff” follows his most recent EP, Don’t Listen To Me, a wondrous showcase of Martin’s natural ability as a storyteller conveying vulnerability, adventure, hope, and authentic connections. With tracks co-produced by frequent collaborator Ryan Stewart (Carly-Rae Jepson, Owl City, Tyler Shaw), this collection has the power to comfort listeners through life’s hardships and celebrate their wins. Don’t Listen To Me is available on all streaming platforms here
