London-based singer-songwriterTom Speight shares delightful new single ‘Buzzing’

August 22, 2025 BY Emma Orland

Today, acclaimed London-based indie-folk artist Tom Speight has shared another sublime offering from his upcoming new album, Perfect Strangers, due out 26th September.

Out now, the new single and the album’s opener, ‘Buzzing’ (listen here and below), is a vibrant, feel-good track that captures the unfiltered pure joy of live music. As one of the first songs written for Perfect Strangers, it sets the tone with its raw, organic sound, reflecting the energy of Tom Speight and his band jamming together. With a nostalgic nod to the analogue days of music-making, the song celebrates human connection, spontaneity, and the uplifting spirit of simply having a good time. It’s a joyful anthem that encourages listeners to embrace imperfection and soak up the positive energy…

“I wanted to capture the energy of me and the band simply having fun together in a room”, Speight says. “The track has a raw, organic feel, almost like a throwback to the way records used to be made… when musicians would play together live in the same space. My goal was to create an album that feels almost anti-digital, where you can truly hear the power of human performance in all its imperfect yet perfect glory. ‘Buzzing’ is all about embracing good vibes and having a great time!”

Buzzing’ follows the previous singles such as ‘Higher’, ‘Whole Wide World’ (featuring renowned soul singer P.P. Arnold) and the Beatles and Beach Boys-inspired Sungirl’. All tracks have received airplay on BBC Radio 2TomSpeight was recently on ITV1’s prime morning show This Morning, discussing his long battle with Crohn’s disease and the upcoming new album.

Set to be released on 26th September through the Nettwerk label, Perfect Strangers marks Tom Speight’s fourth full-length album, showcasing him at his very best and championing the importance of human connection through music and beyond. The new album embarks on a compelling journey that evokes a full spectrum of emotions for listeners—from the elation of the first single ‘Higher’ to the heartfelt nostalgia of ‘Let Forever Be Today’—where Tom Speight reveals the vulnerable core that his fans have connected with from day one. The record features an extraordinary lineup of talented musicians, including Lydia Clowes, Charlotte OC, The Mayries, and P.P. Arnold, alongside members of renowned UK acts Feeder, Turin Brakes, Snow Patrol, and Embrace.

Perfect Strangers proudly showcases its influences, Speight further explained: “With Perfect Strangers, I explore my love for folk, timeless songwriting, and the 1960s and ’70s sound, reimagined with a modern twist… Even though we may have started as strangers, I hope these songs resonate with you on a deeper level. That’s all I’ve ever wanted to do with my music: create a soundtrack for someone’s day in a meaningful way.”

The journey of his new album began after watching the Netflix series One Day. Inspired, Speight commenced writing the album’s title track, ‘Perfect Strangers’, and shared a clip online. To his astonishment, David Nicholls, the author of One Day, reached out and encouraged him to complete it. From that inspiration, ‘Perfect Strangers’ was born—a deeply romantic tale where love defies myths and transforms into pure magic. “The song draws inspiration from the early works of Damien Rice and David Gray, combining intimacy with a powerful emotional resonance,” Speight says.

This experience prompted him to reflect more on the profound connections between people. In a world where we’ve never been more connected, we are also facing unprecedented levels of loneliness. “I wanted to create an album that felt truly human—one that stood as a reaction to AI and the online world. I longed to return to the essence of music: playing live in a room with musicians, capturing those imperfect moments that, to me, define a great record.”

Tom Speight will be embarking on several live dates this year, including his Perfect Strangers headline tour + support dates with Turin Brakes later this year in the UK. The full list of current dates is below, and tickets are available HERE.
