Lily Kershaw Announces Her New Album ‘Pain & More’ Out Sept 13; Shares New Single “Poem Song”
April 26, 2024 BY Emma Orland
Today, Los Angeles singer/songwriter Lily Kershaw is happy to announce that her anticipated new album Pain & More will be released on September 13, 2024. The facetiously named Pain & More is an emotionally tactile and exquisitely executed album that confronts the many incarnations of the prolonged, persistent depression that Lily has masked in front of others for decades. Pain & More may be her third full-length, but it’s the first in which she was able to reach a quiet within herself, allowing a wellspring of truth to rush out in these songs. “I’ve been struggling for so long,” says Kershaw, who wrote and recorded it over two years. “This record is like a new cycle of my life.”
She shares the news with a new single called “Poem Song,” the first she specifically wrote with this concept album in mind while in the midst of a depressive flare-up. The piano-based folk ballad that builds into a swirling emotional release originally came out as a nine-minute stream of consciousness poem-like song. Lily says, “‘Poem Song’ is a song about self-acceptance, and how maybe self-acceptance is actually the truest form of rebellion, of healing.”

Lily first introduced Pain & More with the wistful and witty “Depreshmode,” setting the tenor for her defining album – a vivid, if sometimes uncomfortable, whirl of angst, hope and a good dash of humor. She followed with the somber reflection of the past in “Living Room Parties,” the lilting sing-along tale of a toxic relationship “Love Is a Dark Comedy,” and the sauntering, earthy-folk tr
ack “Americandream.”
Lily released her debut album Midnight In The Garden in 2013, featuring break-out single “As It Seems.” The album scored millions of streams and critical acclaim as she landed syncs on Criminal Minds, Grey’s Anatomy, Finding Carter, and more. She followed it up with her 2018 EP Lost Angeles and her 2021 sophomore album Arcadia, which received acclaim from Nylon, American Songwriter, Vulture, Earmilk, Refinery29, and more. Along the way, Lily cut her teeth on tours alongside Radical Face, Mason Jennings, The Weepies and Joshua Radin, to name a few, and today has amassed more than 80 million streams.
