Lawson Hull Shares New Song “Fluke” From Upcoming EP ‘Hangin’ Out With Cowboys’

On his upcoming EP Hangin’ Out With Cowboys (August 27th), Australian artist Lawson Hull merges fascinating prose with cinematic production and artful songcraft, as evidenced by his latest single, the anthemic “Fluke.” The song is about fast love, the kind one might find watching a New York-centric rom-com. Lawson says, “The song follows a couple’s first few weeks of getting to know each other, and the over-arching conversation of ‘Are you into me?’”
Lawson previously shared his wistful indie rock single “Mexico,” which was written during lockdown, out of a wish to be somewhere else amidst foiled plans to travel, album title inspiration “Cowboys,” where he combines indie folk rock and dream pop melodies as he reflects on the life of an artist in the wild west of the music industry, and “Parking Lot,” where he sarcastically reflects on the monotony of life.
Hangin’ Out With Cowboys is the follow up to Lawson’s 2020 EP Dreaming is Easy, a culmination for Lawson, proof that he can step up and actualize his dreams. Lawson comments, “It’s easy to dream when you’re a kid. You just have to make those dreams come to life when you’re older.” All but one of the EP’s six songs were recorded with Sydney-based producer Billy Otto (Dreams, Eyes Like Fire) who was able to provide a cohesive sonic palette that speaks to Lawson’s atmospheric guitar playing and his love of the outdoors.
